Interested in building your own website or blog? It's all here for beginners...
Everything you need to build your own website the easy way for beginners.
Step-by-step, it's all below.
What will I need?
For a WordPress website or blog, you'll need your own domain name (GoDaddy and Namecheap are two good sources for this) or you can get a free domain name with Bluehost, you will need hosting for your website, and you'll need a theme/template. There are hundreds of WordPress templates online for free. A good place to start is at WordPress.org.
Hosting - Bluehost or Hostgator?
Bluehost and Hostgator are both well known and popular hosting companies. We use both. Hostgator has all of the features you could want in hosting, and the best tech support (when you're working on your site at 2:00 am and run into a snag and know you can get an answer or solution NOW kind of tech support). Bluehost has tech support and Bluehost offers lower pricing ($5.95 per month versus $10.95 per month with Hostgator). We have provided links with our 50% OFF hosting discounts below. Bluehost also offers a free domain name for new users (a $15.00 value). We recommend Bluehost if budget is a consideration and Hostgator if you want the best in tech support. We will be using Bluehost for the example in the first video below, which shows you how to get your Bluehost hosting, with easy step-by-step instructions, and how to easily install WordPress so you can get your website started within minutes. The second video shows you how to obtain Hostgator hosting and the rest of the second video is everything you need to get your website up and operational in approximately 2 hours, regardless of which hosting you choose.
You can get Bluehost If you are completely new to this, your domain name is the Internet address you will use for your website, such as http://yourcompanyname.com. For example Uber's domain name is http://Uber.com.

Time Savers for Bluehost:
When you are filling out your admin user name and password in Bluehost (which is shown in the video), this is going to be the logon for your website for the duration. For your user name you should never use "admin". A logon name that's easy for you to remember is a good idea. The second admin field, the password, in Bluehost, is going to be your website logon password. Letters and numbers are usually chosen for this field. Whatever you prefer.
Important: After you log out of Bluehost (do log out of Bluehost when you are finished, you don't need to access Bluehost to get to your website), the way you will access your website, every time, is you will type this into the address bar of your browser (say Google) at the top:
http://yourdomainname.com/wp-admin
This will take you to the screen shown below, where you can then type in your admin user name and password as discussed above to access your website.
You can pick a free theme in the add theme section of your website as shown in the video, there are hundreds to choose from. The easiest way to build your website is to follow the instructions step-by-step.
